2010 eXtension CoP Workshop ‘A Success’

“We are very excited to report that the 2010 National eXtension CoP Workshop was a great success,” said Craig Wood, eXtension associate director. “We had Communities of Practice represented from all stages of development: launched (many pioneer CoPs), to newly launched, to those developing content, to those most recently named. More seasoned CoP members were mentoring newer members; eXtension staff were training and advising; and all were engaged in an outstanding learning process.”

More than 180 Extension professionals participated in the 2010 National eXtension CoP Workshop held June 6-8, 2010 in Austin, Texas. Participants attended 55 concurrent sessions on topics like Moodle, Google Wave, Using the Wiki, Google Knol, Facebook & Twitter, marketing, evaluation, social media strategies, development, collaboration and more. Two outstanding keynote speakers, David Warlick of the Landmark Project and Melissa Rach of Brain Traffic were featured. The group was welcomed to Texas by Texas Agrilife Extension Director Ed Smith.

More than 23 concurrent sessions as well as both keynote addresses were recorded and web cast during the meeting. The recording URLs for these sessions will be posted to the conference web site: http://about.extension.org/the-2010national-cop-workshop/ as soon as they are available.

New Feature: Ask an Expert Photo Upload

By popular demand, Ask an Expert now supports image upload. This brand new feature allows people to submit up to three images with their question. They can also submit additional images in any AaE follow-up responses. Image upload is live on the Ask an Expert form on the Public Site (with a new, cleaner design) at extension.org/ask.

It’s also available for the Ask an Expert Widgets (only one photo can initially be uploaded with widgets). To get image upload for your widget, you need to opt-in to the feature on your widget admin page: http://www.extension.org/widgets/aae/list (login required)

We hope this new feature makes it easier to answer questions that have a visual component. If you’ve got comments or questions about image upload you can comment here on this post or drop us an email to feedback@extension.org. thanks!

Alabama Extension, eXtension & Bonnie Plants Form Partnership

An “Ask an Expert” partnership of the Alabama Cooperative Extension Service (ACES), eXtension, and Bonnie Plants is now operational. A new ACES position, Outreach Programs Administrator, funded by Bonnie Plants was filled earlier this month to handle incoming questions. The Ask an Expert widget is now up and running on the Bonnie Plants home page and on their other pages with how-to-grow content: http://www.bonnieplants.com/

As reported on May 20, fifteen questions have already been received in the last few days (a dozen in the last 24 hours) from nine states.

Both eXtension and ACES are gaining visibility from this unique partnership. Thanks go especially to the eXtension application development team for their cooperation, hard work, and patience in helping to make this project a reality.
