1994
Cooperative Extension System’s survival in a new customer-driven marketplace debated. Concluded that Extension must compete for new audiences by stepping out of a sole-source provider mode.
2001
Decision made to transform the way Cooperative Extension delivers its mission and message through technology (eXtension).
2002
National information technology network recommended organizing, managing and delivering online Cooperative Extension information and education. Digital Access Research Team develops concepts used to draft the eXtension plan.
2003
National Extension Directors and Administrators endorsed the eXtension concept and called for a business plan.
2004
Cooperative Extension System adopted an assessment to provide project start-up funds through 2007.
2005
Prototype introduced.
2007
Full system launched. eXtension provides unprecedented access to the land-grant university system with rules of operation, governing committee, staff and long-term implementation plan.
